Not using PetPrevea? Beware of Fleas!!
It’s what every pet owner dreads: fleas. Have no fear, we can help. Read on to learn what to do after you’ve found fleas on your pet.
The Flea Life Cycle
There are multiple stages to a flea life cycle. If you notice one flea, know there are many more you cannot see. These include eggs, pupae and larvae—all waiting to become full-fledged adults. In fact, a female flea can lay up to 50 eggs per day. That’s why it’s important to eliminate all versions of fleas on your pet and in your home as soon as you notice any signs of fleas.
Treat Your Home
- Vacuum all areas that your pet uses. If your pet has ridden in your car—vacuum the seats. Continue to vacuum for 10 days and up to 2 weeks to kill emerging adult fleas. Remember to empty the vacuum in the garbage outside after every use.
- Wash all bedding your pet has access to in hot water. Dry all items in the highest heat setting on your drier.
- Consider an indoor insecticide. Make sure the product has an IGR (insect growth regulator) which will kill all stages of the flea. Direct sprays or aerosols are more effective than traditional foggers or bombs.
Treat Your Yard
- Mow the yard. Fleas love to hide in tall grass. Bag and dispose of the contents.
- Clear any debris. Fleas love to hide. Expose as much of the infected areas as you can to the sun.
Treat Your Pet : This is where PetPrevea comes in to save the day—our products kill fleas! And monthly usage can help prevent them from coming back. Don’t forget fleas can be alive and well even when it’s cold outside so year round use is your best bet.
For Dogs
- Give your dog a bath. Mild soap and water can ease the itching and remove fleas. After the bath, use a flea comb to remove excess fleas. Focus on hard-to-reach areas like behind the ears. If the problem is severe, you may want to consider a flea shampoo.
- On the following day, apply PetPrevea products to your furry pal following the directions found on the packaging.
- Treat all pets in your home to both a bath and monthly application of PetPrevea. All pets will need to be treated at the same time, so they do not reinfest each other. Ensure you are using the correct product for your pets. Applications vary by size and weight. Products like PetPrevea Advanced for Dogs and PetPrevea Plus for Dogs that include an IGR (insect growth regulator) can break the flea life cycle by killing all stages of the flea.
- Continue to wash bedding and dry on the highest setting. This will kill any emerging fleas.
- Talk to your veterinarian—especially if you see any skin irritation on your pet. This could indicate a flea allergy.
For Cats
- Give your cat a bath. Mild soap and water can ease the itching and remove fleas. If your cat hates water, you can use a spray bottle.
